Ephesians 6:10-18

A Fight to the Finish

And that about wraps it up. God is strong, and he wants you strong. So take everything the Master has set out for you, well-made weapons of the best materials. And put them to use so you will be able to stand up to everything the Devil throws your way. This is no afternoon athletic contest that we’ll walk away from and forget about in a couple of hours. This is for keeps, a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels.

Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, and salvation are more than words. Learn how to apply them. You’ll need them throughout your life. God’s Word is an indispensable weapon. In the same way, prayer is essential in this ongoing warfare. Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.

Those of you that know me, know that Ephesians 6 on the Amour of God is one of my favorite passages in the Scriptures. I especially enjoy this passage in the Message Bible. Paul is wrapping this section of Scripture on the amour how it’s not just an afternoon athletic event but a fight for life and death. That to me can be applied to our faith, food, investment of our treasures and training (exercise). We must fight intensely and train daily in all areas of our life. Satan our enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy.

The passage continues with praying:

Pray hard and long. Pray for your brothers and sisters. Keep your eyes open. Keep each other’s spirits up so that no one falls behind or drops out.

I picture it as we watched our children playing sports we cheered them on from the stands or the sidelines. TO GO…TO GO….  We also are standing on the sidelines or stands cheering each other on! I am cheering for you and you are cheering for me so no one falls behind or drops out! We need to encourage each other to be the BEST that the Lord has called us to be. Together we can do and conquer so much. A cord of three is not easily broken (Ecclesiastes 4:12).

Together. We. CAN!
